Naked Cakes

 “It’s what’s on the inside that counts!”

Naked cakes seem to be all the rage this wedding season. This rustic meets modern twist of the traditional wedding cake has local bakeries booking up this trend quickly. We went to local pros to see what they have to say about these confections and why this trend is going to stick around for a bit.

Janet of Rosebeary’s say they already have orders on the books this season for Naked Cakes. “Brides love the simplicity of them,” they told us. Rosebeary’s also said incorporating fresh fruit and flowers are another element that are turning brides and grooms toward this trend. 

“‘It's what's on the inside that counts’ is applied very literally here!” Jennifer of Icing on the Top says they’ve also had many requests for Naked Cakes this wedding season.  “This rustic and unfinished look is a great option for Brides wanting a modern take on the classic wedding cake,” she said . . . and we couldn’t agree more!

Laura of Ms. Laura’s Cakes says they love making the Naked Cakes saying “they render a very rustic and elegant look.” They said that while the cakes may be missing their frosting, they are still full of flavor because each cake layer can be a different flavor layered with an assortment of flavor-full fillings. She warned, however, “remember though, to keep your flavors in the same family because it will show on the outside.   For instance you wouldn't want to do a layer of chocolate, red velvet, key lime, and white chocolate almond.”
