Real Weddings: Orchestrating the Perfect Wedding Reveal

By Lynn Wheatley

There are times when a particular venue calls for extraordinary planning. Last evening was one of those times. The wedding for Kelley and Samuel was formal and beautiful at Holy Family Cathedral in Tulsa. The reception was held at the Tulsa Doubletree Downtown Hotel – in the International Ballroom. The ballroom by itself is large and an event with anything less than 500 guests could get lost.

When our bride said she wanted elements of “surprise” at her reception, my mind went into overtime. Huge ballroom, cocktails before dinner, seated dinner and dancing after dinner. How to combine it all without revealing every element at the beginning?

So we designed the wedding in three parts: section one contained the bar and cocktail tables with a string quartet playing, section two was set with guest tables and section three held the dance floor, DJ and more cocktail tables plus the favor table set with a complete candy bar.

As the doors opened, guests were met by waiters passing hors d’oeuvres and a large bar centered in the room. Towering over the bar was a custom ice sculpture by our favorite ice sculptor with the Lasting Impressions signature vase topped by beautiful flowers and crystals.

Each element of the evening was preceded by the opening of the ballroom’s air walls between sections – guests were captivated by the appearance of green shirted hotel employees removing the walls to reveal first the dinner, then the dance portion of the wedding.

Tablescapes were designed in varying heights – all in clear glass containers – and LOTS of candlelight.

As Kelley and Samuel danced to Moonlight Serenade, wafts of confetti showered the couple on the dance floor emblazoned with their own custom logo. The lighting of the ballroom completed the look and made the entire evening magical and lovely.

We love working with vendors who take as much pride in their work as we do. So a big shout out to the Doubletree Downtown staff, DJ Connection, Millenium Ice, OMNI lighting and of course, all will be captured perfectly by Ace Cuervo Photography and Cherished Traditions Videography.
